City Developments Limited and Union Square Residences
City Developments Limited, known as CDL, is listed on the Singapore Exchange and is one of the largest property groups in Singapore by market capitalisation. In its own description, it has a network across 163 locations in 29 countries and regions, a track record of more than 60 years in real estate development, investment and management, and more than 50,000 homes developed. Its portfolio spans homes, offices, hotels, serviced apartments, student accommodation, retail malls and integrated developments.

Union Square Residences and CDL’s City-Centre Rejuvenation
CDL describes Union Square as its third major enhancement initiative in the Central Area. The group assembled the site from the former Central Mall, which it owned, and Central Square, then obtained Written Approval for the enlarged site in March 2024 under URA’s Strategic Development Incentive scheme. Union Square is the first redevelopment in the Singapore River planning area under that scheme and one of the largest in the precinct.
The result is a mixed quarter rather than a single building: Union Square Residences, the Union Square Central office tower, a co-living block with a hotel licence, and shops and restaurants in new and conserved buildings, with public plazas between them.
How CDL Has Planned Union Square Residences
CDL’s launch release of 9 November 2024 sets out the plan for the residences: 366 homes in a 40-storey tower with commercial units on the first two storeys, facilities on levels 3 and 34 and in seven Recreational Pods, kitchens fitted with Liebherr, De Dietrich and V-Zug appliances, Hansgrohe and Geberit bathroom fittings, and Rimadesio walk-in closets with a Smart Home Gateway in the four-bedroom premium homes, Sky Suites and penthouse.
